Folk Magick for Protection

The following is from a website I came across called The Janic Tradition. Unfortunately I have lost the URL. Drop me an email if you know what it is.  Magi

This section covers ways that you can protect yourself from negative energies and dangerous situations.

Please keep in mind that Goddess expects you to use common sense in protecting yourself. Don't depend on a protection spell to keep you safe while you flash a wad of bills in front of a group of people on a dark street late at night. The spells can help protect you physically, as well as mentally and etherically, but Goddess isn't going to protect you from the lessons you need to learn, even if you have to learn them the hard way.

Protection When Leaving the House [To Janus, the two-headed God of doorways] Janus, as I go about, Bless my comings-in and my goings-out. Protective Crystals I am a big believer in the power of crystals, whether carried in the pocket or worn as jewellery. Some good protective stones include: apache tears, obsidian, and coral. Any stone or mineral that gives you more confidence will work. Go to the Crystal Correspondences page for additional information on crystals.

The Tree Spell If you find yourself in a stressful situation, try to remember to do this spell. It's hard to remember to do it when you need to, but it really helps.

Mentally distance yourself from the situation at hand. Visualize yourself sinking your "roots" deep into the earth, until you feel Earth energy. Draw that energy up through your feet, legs, and spine, and out through the top of your head (your crown chakra). Let the energy flow from the top of your head down to surround your body. Feel the shield of energy keeping the negative energies in the situation away from you

The Aura Shield This spell is similar to the tree spell, except that you use solar energy, rather than Earth energy.

Visualize a glowing white ball floating just above the top of your head. See it emitting gold sparks, which coalesce into a shield around your body. Know that this is the energy of Spirit protecting you. Maintain the shield as long as you need to.

Actually, it's not a bad idea to practice this daily. That way your aura will build in strength, and you won't be as likely to be bothered anyway.

Chakra Force The third, or solar plexus chakra is the chakra of will. If you need to really make a point, or even protect yourself physically, take a deep breath, and draw as much energy into the area of your solar plexus as you can. When it feels full, push that energy out as hard as you can. If you're in a situation where it is necessary, yell if you need to. Then run like hell!!****. (Let's not push our luck here, okay?)

Freeze 'Em Out If there is a particular person who is bothering you, there are two things you can do. First, and most important, is to examine your behaviour and make sure that you aren't sending them mixed messages, i.e., don't tell someone you never want to see them again and then call them when you need something. Once you're sure that you're sending clear messages, which they refuse to hear or respond positively to, you can perform this spell.

Write the person's name on a sheet of paper. I like to use a gel marker with gel marker paper so the words don't run. Fill a zip-loc baggie or sealable container with water. Put the paper in the container, seal it, and put it in the freezer. You can then add an appropriate chant or statement, such as:

[Name of person], I wish you well, But around me you will feel a chill. Take this hint, and leave me be, In other places, warmer you'll be. When the person is no longer in your life or a threat to you, take the baggie out of the freezer, and allow the water to melt. Pour the melted water onto the Earth as an offering, and either bury the paper or allow it to dry and burn it.

The Cat's Claws If you have a cat, you probably find claws laying around that your beloved feline has shed. Given that cats are very good at protecting themselves, these claws make wonderful protective charms.

Collect the claws in a jar for your home, or put one or more in a pouch and carry it with you in your purse, pocket or car.

Do not, however, try to remove them from the cat before the cat is ready to give them up, or you'll find how out truly protective they are!
